Creating such images often requires more thought that sweat. Original ideas which are both creative and relevant, don't come easy.

It was not so long ago, when a trip was reason enough to buy a camera and for many, trips were excuses to justify expensive cameras. Whichever the case, travel and cameras have always been best friends.

Every single day, millions of images are captured and shared from every conceivable corner of planet earth. Dose the world really need a million pictures of the Eifel tower, Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, Acropolis, etc., etc., and good luck finding the few decent ones out actually worth looking at. Another example of 'too much of a good thing' and with almost no cost, people shoot first and don't even think later.But look beyond where all the selfie cameras are pointing and its not long before the true character of a place beings to unfold.

With a capable camera on most smartphones these days, travel photos have lost their magic and famous landmarks are now little more than backdrops for selfies.
Is there any magic left ?

With everything on line, discovering a place is not really a challenge any more, but looking beyond popular distractions, is. Magicitians know this all to well and use distractions to steer eyes away from the 'magic'.

This summer, packing a bag and waking up on a crowded sunny beach will be a privilege reserved only for those who feel invincible.

As for all the rest who have come to realize the consequences of being vulnerable, where and how to travel has become a riddle with no clear answer.

Get it wrong and it could mean the difference between a hotel, or hospital bed. For many, enjoying a holiday in 2021 and beyond will require a departure from they were comfortable with until now.

Perhaps going back to basics and rethinking how to add value to our most precious commodity, time, may not only keep us safe, but open our eyes to world which we never paid attention to by following easy, popular trends.

Where to Go ?

While most of the world is counting down when things will go back to normal, some far brighter minds than mine, have pointed out the obvious. The next normality will be different, things will never be like they used to, so instead of waiting for something that will never come, now is the time to reimagine and reinvent our future.

It doesn't take a pandemic to bring about such change. Just remember how life was before the internet and the smartphone.

Their impact on the world was and will continue to be far greater than what this pandemic will ever have. If the initials AI do not mean anything to you right now, they will bring about the next big change in humanity. The only difference is speed. The pandemic took over the world in a matter of weeks, instead of years. For better or for worst, life was never the same again in all cases.

Reinventing Travel

But there is one thing about art that is common to all,
it needs to be shared.
The Mona Liza forgotten in an old barn would be, worthless. Great works of art locked up in vaults are of no value to anyone, including their owners. A scratchy drawing stuck to a fridge door from a 3 year old to his parents, priceless.

Art is the language of emotions, it expresses thoughts and feelings which cannot be put into words, or any other context for that matter. How else could one express a dance, a song, a sculpture.

For many people, art is the only way they can speak in public, not everyone has the communication skills of actors, not everyone can articulate words like speakers, not everyone can use the same type of pen to write with.

Like all forms of communication, not everything should be shared with everyone. Some things are best kept private, others shared with people of your choice, as for rest, share what you wish without the fear of judgment, criticism, analysis, or comparison. If what you have to say is genuine, there will be those who will feel nothing, those who will smile and perhaps some who will take the time to thank you.

Art can be about showing off, pretending to be something you are not, an ego trip, a way of making a living.

It can also be your voice to the world.

ART, one of the most difficult words in the world for people to agree upon, for one very simple reason.

People, have always been one of the most precious, but challenging subjects to capture. A century ago it meant standing in front of a camera motionless and emotionless for longer than you could hold your breath. Today the limiting factor is no longer the equipment, it's our imagination.

A portrait is a visual representation of someone's persona, not simply a picture of their face.

Photography was always heavily dependant on the capabilities of the equipment on hand and until recently it, was a serious limiting factor. An excuse photographers no longer can call upon, to repeat the same stereotype images in the comfort and 'technical perfection' of their studios.
