The importance of selecting a wedding photographer, is second only to the wedding dress.  After all, what is the point of getting the right dress with the wrong photographer. Of the many considerations when choosing your photographer, the single most important thing is to find one that understands and ultimately can deliver what would make you happy. The art of wedding photography is constantly evolving , but there are two basic approaches.

Stylized, where the photographer practically directs the wedding and most pictures are set up to have a particular look, which will differ from one photographer to another, but will be heavily stylized. And there is Photo Journalistic where the photographer is an observer who captures the day with as little intrusion as practically possible. The wisdom behind this approach is that a wedding is for the benefit for the bride, groom, friends and family, not for the photographer.

There is no right or wrong, better or worst. What is important is to understand the difference between the two and know what you want. Only then, can you start selecting who you will entrust your wedding day to.

If time and budget allows, there is another happy middle road. The wedding day can be journalistic, the day after creative, without the one compromising the other.

As it is probably obvious, my work is clearly journalistic, as I strongly believe that the wedding day should be for the benefit of the couple and not the creative indulgence of the photographer. That is not to say the images should be boring, but they should capture the spirit and emotions of the day, with the highest possible quality and least intervention.  If time and conditions allow, a series of creative shoots can of course of be done.
Just 20 years ago the options were color or B&W, size of prints and number of album pages. Today things are a little more complicated. If we are to start with traditional options, there is an endless choice of printed albums, everything from low cost laser printed coffee table book style albums, to custom printed, hand crafted leather albums to whatever size your wallet and sitting room can accommodate.

But its even questionable if a printed album is a necessity anymore. The way we are all accustomed to sharing our images an online solution seems the obvious first choice. Of course you can post all the photos on social media or photo sharing sites, but for such a special occasion its a little too casual.

By far the best option is a dedicated web site for your event, which can act as an invitation, feedback from guest, the entire wedding album, pictures posted by the guests, etc., etc.,

If you have the time and inclination you can actually do all this by yourselves at absolutely no cost ( click here to find out how). If not, it can be done for you for a very reasonable fee. The great thing about having a site dedicated to an event is that it comes alive well before the actual date and continues to thrive well after. You also have the option to make it as public or as private as you choose.

Best of all, whenever you decide to make a printed album you will have all the photos, from everyone, from beginning to end, all in one place.
